How This Flooring Is Made
A chunky loop-pile weave traditionally made from undyed, flecked wool in the style of North African Berber rugs, now widely reproduced in polypropylene, nylon or wool-blend yarns. The looped, often multi-coloured flecked fibres are thicker and more open than a standard loop pile, giving a distinctive nubbly, natural appearance underfoot and to the eye that's instantly recognisable on a showroom floor and in catalogue photography.
Feel Underfoot
A textured, slightly nubbly feel underfoot rather than smooth or plush — firm and substantial, with the flecked colouring giving visual depth that a plain carpet lacks. It reads as casual and natural rather than formal, which suits relaxed family interiors far better than a polished, traditional sitting room, and it has genuine character and grip underfoot on stairs.
Wear & Durability
Genuinely tough and forgiving day to day — the flecked, multi-tonal colouring is brilliant at disguising dirt, crumbs and general marks between cleans, and the looped construction resists crushing well underfoot. As with any loop pile, watch for snagging from pet claws or catching furniture legs, which can pull a loop and cause it to run across the surface unnoticed until it's spotted.
Which Rooms It Suits
A popular choice for hallways, stairs, family rooms, home offices, playrooms and rental properties, where its practicality and stain-hiding colouring earn its keep daily. Less common in formal or adult-only spaces, where a smoother saxony or twist finish usually suits the intended look better, particularly in a period property or a carefully styled show home.
Cleaning & Care
Vacuum on suction rather than a hard beater-bar setting to avoid pulling loops, and treat any snag by trimming it neatly rather than tugging at it. The flecked colours mean everyday marks are far less noticeable between cleans, though spills should still be blotted promptly to stop staining setting permanently into the fibre, especially on lighter fleck combinations.
