Wool Carpets

Naturally springy, warm and flame-resistant — wool bounces back where synthetics flatten.

How This Flooring Is Made

Spun from natural sheep's wool fibre, either 100% wool or blended with a synthetic such as nylon (commonly 80/20) for extra strength, then woven or tufted into twist, loop or saxony constructions. The crimped natural fibre is what gives wool its characteristic bounce and body compared with man-made yarns of the same weight, and it's often the benchmark other fibres are judged against.

Feel Underfoot

Warm, springy and naturally soft underfoot, with a body and resilience that synthetics struggle to match — the fibre's natural crimp lets it bend repeatedly without breaking, so the pile bounces back rather than staying flattened. It also feels noticeably warmer to bare feet than synthetic equivalents, especially through the winter months, and has a subtle natural sheen rather than a synthetic glare.

Wear & Durability

Genuinely long-lasting when properly maintained — wool's natural crimp means it resists crushing and matting far better than most synthetics, and the fibre is naturally flame-resistant and soil-resistant thanks to its protective outer scales. The trade-off is a higher price and slightly less resistance to ground-in stains than stain-treated synthetic ranges, though most modern wool carpets carry a treatment to help close that gap.

Which Rooms It Suits

Suits pretty much any room in the house, from formal lounges to busy family areas, which is why it's often specified as the premium, whole-house option. Its natural warmth also makes it a popular choice for bedrooms, while its durability holds up well on stairs and in hallways too, provided it's paired with a suitably supportive underlay.

Cleaning & Care

Vacuum regularly on a medium setting rather than maximum suction, which can pull at the fibres, and blot spills immediately, as wool absorbs liquid readily. Professional wool-safe cleaning every year or two keeps it looking its best — avoid high-alkaline cleaning products, which can damage the fibre's protective scales over time and dull its natural finish.
